Privacy and cookies
This notice explains how the website of the Reconfigurable and Adaptive Designs Lab (RADLab), Department of Engineering Science, University of Oxford, handles information about the people who visit it. It applies to this website only. It does not cover the University of Oxford's central web services, nor any external website that these pages link to.
The short version
This is a static informational website. It has no user accounts, no login, no contact forms, and no comment sections. It does not ask you for personal information, and it runs no analytics, no advertising, and no visitor tracking of any kind. It sets no cookies.
Browser storage
The site uses a small amount of browser storage for a single functional purpose. When you open the navigation menu on the home page, the site records that choice so that the menu stays open if you return to the home page during the same visit, which saves you from opening it again. This preference is held only in your own browser using session storage. It is never transmitted to us or to anyone else, it contains no personal information, and it is deleted automatically when you close the browser tab. Under the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations, storing a preference that you have set yourself, with no tracking or profiling, does not require a consent banner. You can clear it at any time through your browser settings, and turning off browser storage does not stop the site from working.
Fonts
The typeface used across the site, IBM Plex Mono, is served directly from this website rather than from a third-party font service. Viewing the site therefore does not send any request, or reveal your IP address, to an outside font provider.
Hosting
The site is hosted on GitHub Pages. As with almost any web host, GitHub may record standard technical information such as IP addresses and browser details in its server logs, in order to deliver the site and protect it against abuse. This processing is carried out by GitHub as the hosting provider and is described in the GitHub Privacy Statement.
Links to other websites
These pages link to external resources, including published papers, academic profiles, and social media. Once you follow such a link you are on a separate website, governed by its own privacy policy, and this notice no longer applies. A small number of images may also fall back to a publisher's or host's own server if the local copy cannot be loaded.
